CITY

Santander is an elegant city in the north of Spain which extends over a wide bay with views of the Cantabrian Sea. Its historic quarter includes a group of majestic buildings which are situated against an incredible natural backdrop of sea and mountains. Its marine and commercial tradition is linked to a century old history of tourism, which has its main attractions in the famous El Sardinero beach, the promenade and the Magdalena peninsula. The cultural wealth of the Cantabrian capital is enriched with the passage of the Pilgrim's Road to Santiago de Compostela and the neighboring Altamira Caves, both of which have been declared World Heritage.

ACTIVITIES

A whole range of cultural activities, workshops and study trips complete our program. In addition, you will have the opportunity to meet Spanish people and to improve your command of Spanish. In the Campus and outside, the lively atmosphere will allow you to improve your social and intercultural competences.
Besides cooking, dance and theatre workshops, on Saturdays afternoon and on Sundays, all day, students can go on a trip to tourist places in Cantabria and its surroundings such as the following ones:

  • Santillana del Mar
  • Potes and Liebana
  • Prehistoric caves of Altamira – Heritage of Humanity
  • San Vicente de la Barquera
  • Bilbao Guggenheim Museum
  • Burgos

Every first Thursday of July, August and September, an open-air get-together is organized for all the foreign students registered and local languages students. This activity is organized in collaboration with the Official School of Languages from Santander. It aims at improving the linguistic and intercultural competence of all participants as well allowing a better integration within the local context of the city.
