ACADEMIC PROGRAM

The students who participate in the SUMMER’09 program will choose between the Hispanic Studies Program and the Spanish Language Program.

SPANISH LANGUAGE PROGRAM

  • This program offers 3 or 4 hours daily of Spanish language instruction, including Spanish grammar, listening and comprehension, writing and oral expression.
  • The student will be placed in a learning environment which emphasizes language acquisition through practice and conversation.
  • The objective is to develop the student’s Spanish skills.

Modules:

1. Standard (45 hours):

  • Spanish grammar, writing & comprehension
  • Oral expression and listening comprehension

2. Intensive (60 hours, 2nd session only):

  • Spanish grammar, writing & comprehension
  • Oral expression and listening comprehension
  • Pronunciation Workshop, Business Spanish or Spanish Civilization and Culture
 
Levels: elementary, intermediate and advance

1st session: from 31st May to 18th June 2010

2nd session: from 21st June to 9th July 2010

HISPANIC STUDIES PROGRAM

    • This study abroad program is designed to meet the needs of both Spanish language majors or those with a strong interest in Spain and Latin America. It also caters to the needs of those with little or no background in Spanish by offering classes taught in English. A placement exam will determine the language level of each student.
    • Attendance to all classes is mandatory and will be monitored by the professor. Periodic quizes, homework assignments, and final exams will also be administered.
    • Credits: Each class is worth 6 Spanish credits (3 U.S. credits) unless otherwise noted, except the SPAN 316 Andalusian Culture class that is 2 credits (1 U.S. credit)..
    • The program includes: 1 classes (3h/day), an orientation session, transcripts from Pablo de Olavide University, and additional social-cultural activities. The Andalusian Culture class must be paid separately.
    • Transcripts will be issued by Pablo de Olavide University.
